A Go Fund Me has been launched to help pay Deshon Gibson’s medical bills.

The teenager’s left hand was amputated in Miami last December to remove a tumour from four of his ribs, chest area and some from his neck. He also had to get plastic surgery to reconstruct his left side.

Gibson,15, is fighting a rare condition called Desmoid Fibromatosis and the family needs US$200 000 to continue chemotherapy as the insurance will no longer cover the cost of treatment.

“On resuming his second cycle we were informed that we no longer have any remaining insurance coverage for our son to continue receiving treatment. The coverage for just under Barbados $500 000 was exhausted. We were then informed the remaining cost of his chemotherapy treatment and his remaining medical procedures would be at the [family’s] expense. Any treatments are on hold until the hospital receives payment in advance for any services they provide,” said his father Desmond Mullin.
