COVID-19 continues to change the Barbadian landscape as this Good Friday, churches are restricted to smaller numbers and reduced service times.

Traditionally, the Good Friday service lasts three hours – called the three hours’ devotion – from noon to 3 p.m. However, with the pandemic protocols, this is no longer being done.

At St Mary’s Anglican Church in The City, Priest-in-Charge Canon Wayne Isaacs said they held a single hour and a half long service called the Good Friday Liturgy, which follows Jesus Christ from the time he was handed over to be judged to when He was crucified and buried.

“We decided to hold one in-person service given the fact that it is highly recommended that persons should not be in enclosed areas for extended periods of time. During the Service, we reflected on pain caused by violence and the need to establish nonviolent communities,” said Isaacs.

The service was attended by around 50 congregants with a further 70-plus following online. (CA)
