The keys to Blackman and Gollop Primary School were officially handed over to the Ministry of Education on Wednesday morning.

During a tour of classrooms and offices at the Staple Grove, Christ Church school, staff from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) said the facility was power washed and sanitised on several occasions since the last patient there recovered from COVID-19 and was released on March 19.

The QEH’s acting chief operations officer, Louise Bobb, thanked the staff at the school for allowing the country to use the space for 76 days. And she gave the assurance that the school was properly decontaminated.

In response, acting chief education officer Joy Adamson said they were satisfied with the work carried out.

Adamson added that members of the Barbados Defence Force would assist teachers in organising the classrooms ahead of the April 19 reopening.

Blackman and Gollop was used an isolation facility in early January after a spike in COVID-19 cases. (TG)
