Fontabelle road gets cleaning

As the national cleanup campaign continues to reduce the volume of volcano ash across Barbados, a team from the Ministry of Transport, Works and Maintenance was deployed along Fontabelle, St Michael, on Wednesday.

The campaign is being coordinated via this ministry and is headed by Minister Dr William Duguid.

Some of the team were on foot piling and scraping up the ash, while others operated the heavy machinery to rid the streets of the tiny particles which have become a nuisance and pose a challenge while driving.

Meanwhile, a release from the Ministry urged property owners and householders to refrain from sweeping, washing or placing volcanic ash into drains or suckwells as this can impact negatively and result in flooding during heavy rains.

Persons are therefore advised to collect, bag and store the ash until advised on how to properly dispose of it.

Barbados has been battling varying volumes of ash since La Soufriere volcano in St Vincent and the Grenadines erupted explosively last Friday. (SAT)
