The Barbados men’s and women’s national football teams are set to return to training next week.

Government granted permission to the Barbados Football Association (BFA) for the Tridents to resume training, after COVID-19 restrictions sidelined them for the past four months.

BFA president Randy Harris said he was pleased the greenlight was given.

“We are happy we can resume training for our men’s national team and the Emmerson Boyce women’s development programme,” Harris said in a statement on the BFA’s website.

It is welcomed news for Russell Latapy’s men, who are currently preparing for qualifying matches in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Last month, the men’s national team travelled to the Dominican Republic for the first leg of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers two weeks in advance because COVID-19 restrictions in Barbados meant the national football centre at Wildey was unavailable. (AGB)
