Parliament recalled to extend state of emergency

The Parliament of Barbados was recalled from Easter recess to debate a resolute to extend the state of emergency.

Attorney General Dale Marshall made the announcement moments ago during an address to the nation by public officials, including Prime Minister Mia Mottley and Minister of Health Jeffrey Bostic.

The session will be held on Friday and Marshall said once passed, the state of emergency would be extended from April 26, 2021 to September 25, 2021, a period of five months.

“These are not decisions that we take lightly,” the Attorney General said, adding they were made with the best information available, mindful that the interests and lives of Barbadians “are of paramount concern to us”.

The Easter recess was scheduled to end on May 4. (SAT)
