No Barbadian athlete has qualified as yet for the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Nevertheless, president of the Barbados Olympic Association (BOA) Sandra Osborne said officials are optimistic that at least 20 competitors will represent the island at the July 23 to August 8 showpiece.

With the Olympics two months away, Osborne urged track and field fans not to panic as there is still time for athletes to meet the World Athletics standards.

“We would have estimated a number, I think we would have started off with about 30 athletes and officials. It probably is going to be a little bit smaller now.

“Our athletes have not participated in a lot of qualifying events, so it is difficult to say whether they will come through or not, but there is still some time left,” Osborne told Sun Sport recently in a telephone interview. (AGB)
