A weather system located near 13.6 N, 38.7 W around 11 a.m. today has developed from a tropical wave into Tropical Storm Dolly, the fourth of the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season.
Dolly is about 1 400 miles east of Barbados, and as the Barbados Meteorological Services continues to monitor its progress, there are still no watches or warnings in effect for the country. Tropical Storm Dolly is currently under a shear environment, resulting in the centre being exposed on satellite imagery. While the system should hold its strength over the next day or so, it is forecast to encounter an unfavourable environment as it approaches the Leeward Islands over the weekend, weakening to a tropical wave.
Much of the activity is expected to be over the Leeward Islands.
However, Barbados can expect a reduction in wind speeds which can result in warm conditions on Saturday when the wave affects the island. Lingering instability behind the wave may generate some showers resulting in a Yellow Excess Rainfall Alert on Sunday, August 30.
Members of the public are advised to monitor the progress of the system.
