Two injured in house fire

Two elderly people were in stable condition at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) after fire destroyed a home at 2nd Avenue Worthing, Christ Church on Friday night.

Cecily Cole, 93 and 80 year old Larry Bethel sustained burns to their backs, hands and feet in the blaze which started in the kitchen around 7:55 p.m. and quickly spread.

The seven-bedroom, five-bathroom wood and wall house was owned by Cole. A third occupant, Monica Hinkson, 68, was not home at the time of the fire which was fully extinguished by 11:44 p.m.

A team of nine fire service personnel in two tenders responded to the incident.

Investigations are ongoing. (PR/SAT)
