The Ministry of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO), will be conducting a survey of the elderly in Barbados for approximately two weeks, commencing on Tuesday, May 18.

According to a statement from the ministry, the data collected will be used to inform the development of a new national policy on aging and elderly affairs.

The survey will be carried out by trained research officers over the telephone, and will take about ten minutes to complete. Questions will focus only on the views and the experiences of the elderly with respect to services they use, and the service providers they have interacted with over the years.

The ministry said that a legitimate survey will include the names and contact information of the consultants, who are responsible for conducting the survey.

“They will not seek to solicit any personal details such as names, addresses or financial information. Persons are encouraged to participate.”

For further information, contact the Ministry of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs at 535-1600. (BGIS)
