The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has undisputed cricket benefits but there are some question marks over the economic benefits from a tourism perspective.
Richard Sealy, who served as Minister of Tourism in Barbados for ten years, told Weekend Sport there are no major tourism benefits from the CPL at the ground level.
Sealy said that Barbadians should not lose any sleep about not hosting the CPL, which will be played exclusively at the Warner Park Stadium in St Kitts and Nevis this year from August 28 to 19.
“People should temper their expectations. If you are in a COVID environment and all the hotels are empty, you can set up a bubble here, but if you have any notion that hundreds of people would book hotel rooms and flock to the CPL finals, that is unlikely to happen, even in a non-COVID environment.
