Barbadian Formula 3 driver Zane Maloney copped his second podium of the season, finishing runner-up on the Monaco Monte Carlo circuit in the 2021 Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA).

Maloney started in second position on the grid behind teammate and eventual winner Isack Hadjar. After 21 laps, the order remained unchanged, with Paul Aron of Prema Powerteam also maintaining third.

The 17-year-old is already looking ahead to Sunday and a better result.

“I tried to gain the first position, but after I lost some distance from Isack, I understood there was not much I could do. I decided to keep second and make the most of the experience of Race 1 and be at my best tomorrow from pole position,” Maloney said shortly after his race.

With that finish, he moved up two spots to seventh in the championship with 37 points.

Swiss driver Gregoire Saucy still leads the general standings with 85 points followed by Aron with 72. R-ace GP duo Hadjar and Hadrien David, who was fourth on Saturday, are in fourth and fifth place, respectively. (SAT)
