TIME IS UP for B’s Recycling Centre, but it is still not known what the next step will be, as Minister of Home Affairs Wilfred Abrahams has not finished reading the report.

On May 4, the Ministry of Health ordered owner and operator Paul Bynoe to clean up the Cane Garden, St Thomas facility to reduce the probability of a serious fire, similar to that which occurred in August 2019. The business was also barred from accepting metal waste.

The four-acre facility was filled with tonnes of metal and overflowing with dangerous combustible materials, and Bynoe was given 24 hours to start reducing the mounds of metal and 21 days to make the site reasonably safe and devoid of rats.

If the work was not to the ministry’s satisfaction, the authorities could take possession of the property. (RA)
