With the latest no-confidence motion against him being defeated, Akanni McDowall, says the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) should be more focused on issues affecting workers than attacks on him.
He told the Weekend Nation yesterday:
“In this election, members have a clear choice: someone who is tested and proven versus others that lack even a basic understanding of the constitution of the NUPW.
“This latest no-confidence motion against me over e-voting, which was defeated because it failed to get the 50 votes needed to move forward, is a classic example.
“The idea that as president, I can unilaterally override the constitution and snap my fingers and introduce online voting is ludicrous. I, too, want to see the union embrace technology more, but we had an elections committee that determined we will do the email voting in 2023. What is the rush all of a sudden? What are they planning? Should members be worried?” he asked. (MB)
