A beaver trick on Saturday inclusive of a pair of Stakes successes by trainer Saffie Joseph Jr has propelled him within sight of several pending landmarks.

By winning the US$100 000 Mr Prospector Stakes via Wind Of Change and the US$75 000 Musical Romance Stakes with Sound Machine, Joseph is one Stakes victory away from equalling last year’s achievement of 13 Stakes victories.

Also forming part of his victory collection were Of A Revolution and Ain’t Wasting Time who helped to advance his tally of wins to 86 this year and brings him within 12 wins of 500 career victories.

Beginning in New Jersey at Monmouth Park, the feature event Race 9, Joseph’s six-year-old bay horse Winds Of Change made all the running. Under jockey J.C Diaz Jr, the pair splashed clear on the sloppy track to win impressively by six and one quarter lengths in 1:09.60. (LY)
