Police arrested two men and one woman following an incident in St Thomas on Thursday night.

A statement from the police said officers were involved in a standard operation about 7:15 p.m. while travelling along Melrose Road, and signalled a car to stop using sirens and flashing beacons.

The driver refused to stop, and there was a short chase, which ended along Welches Terrace, also in the same parish.

The statement said an occupant got out from the back seat of the car “holding a suspicious object, while pointing it in the direction of police”.

Officers took evasive action, and in an attempt to defend themselves, one shot was fired, which damaged the windshield at the back of the car. No one was injured.

The three occupants of the car were arrested and taken into custody, along with the car.

Investigations are ongoing.
