Harrison’s Cave reopens to the public on July 2, but it may be some time before visitors can enjoy the exciting new features promised by its new operators.

The Jamaica-based company Chukka Caribbean Adventures began managing operations of the St Thomas attraction from December 1 last year.

In a November press conference held in Barbados after Chukka’s successful bid for the contract, its chief executive officer, Marc Melville, outlined details of the first phase of a $9 million development plan the company had drawn up to upgrade the facility.

It included the erection of suspended bridges, dry slides and zip lines as well as an activity area for children, and themed retail and food and beverage experiences, all designed to enhance the tram tour through the underground wonder that is the main feature of the attraction.

Melville had said he expected the transition process to be completed by early January by which time he would have a better idea of when work on the property would begin. (GC)
