Call for more goals

Score more goals and concede less.

This is the approach head coach of the Barbados senior national football team, Russell Latapy, is imploring on his players following Friday night’s 1-1 draw against Dominican Republic at the Felix Sanchez Olympic Stadium here in Santo Domingo.

Teenager Niall Reid-Stephen gave the Tridents the lead in the first half with a trademark left-footed finish to beat Rafael Diaz at the near post but the hosts equalised in stoppage time to deny Barbados a second victory and ruin their Concacaf FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifying campaign.

It’s the second time Barbados conceded late in the tournament after Jair Catuy scored an 83rd-minute winner for Panama when the two sides met in March.

During a post-match press conference yesterday morning, Latapy said his players must learn to keep their composure in the dying minutes and see out victories. (AGB)
