Many students who are set to take the suite of Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) exams for 2021 are not ready, says the Caribbean Coalition for Exam Redress (CCER).
In a recent press statement, it said that based on a survey recently conducted among students across the region, there was a clear indication that many were not only concerned about sitting the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) this year, but were disappointed that CXC did not regard the students as valuable stakeholders in the education system.
The survey, which utilised the Microsoft Forms platform, was conducted between May 31 and June 2. Although the total number of participants was not disclosed, CCER said the respondents comprised students from Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Guyana and Eastern Caribbean states.
“The students of the Caribbean are strongly dissatisfied with the actions and conduct of the CXC. More than three-quarters of them are dissatisfied with the arrangements for 2021 exams and three-quarters of them are dissatisfied with the insufficient concessions offered,” the coalition stated.
