Fifteen jobs were up for grabs for young people at the climax of a two-day Get Hired programme yesterday put on by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment and the Prince’s Trust International.

Senior youth commissioner in the ministry with responsibility for co-ordination of the Employability Programme, Elizabeth Bowen, said they were constantly receiving calls from jobseekers or those inquiring about employment for them.

“It is very difficult at this time, and we are appreciative of the employers who have stuck with us. Over the years we have had some committed employers who have said to us ‘There are some trying times, there are some challenging times, but we are prepared to give some young persons a chance’,” she said.

Bowen was speaking on the final day of the programme held at Sky Mall, Haggatt Hall, St Michael, which prepared young people, aged 18 to 24, to make the transition to the world of work.
