Washington – The new Permanent Representative of Belize to the Organisation of American States (OAS), Lynn Raymond Young, has presented his credentials to OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro.

The OAS said Almagro highlighted Belize’s good relations with the OAS, noting that Assistant Secretary General of the Organisation, Nestor Mendez, is also from Belize.

“Ambassador Young, Belize has always played a very important role in the OAS,” Almagro told the new envoy at the credentialing ceremony here.

“Your country represents both the Caribbean and Central America, which provides you with a privileged vision of the region.”

Young said his country shares the same values of the OAS regarding the promotion of democracy, the strengthening of peace and security, the fight against poverty and the promotion of sustainable development.

“I take this opportunity to emphasize Belize’s continued commitment to all the principles enshrined in the OAS Charter,” the Belizean diplomat said.

Belize has been a member state  of the OAS since 1991.
