A cloud of uncertainty now hangs over the remainder of Australia’s tour of the Caribbean, and the subsequent Pakistan tour starting next week, after “a non-playing member of the West Indies staff” tested positive yesterday for COVID-19.
Consequently, the second One-Day International between the Windies and the Australians was postponed yesterday at Kensington Oval without a ball being bowled.
The fate of the match and the final ODI scheduled for tomorrow at the same venue, as well as the two Twenty20 Internationals between West Indies and Pakistan next week, now seem to rest with the outcome of tests for the viral illness taken last night and the negotiating skills of Cricket West Indies (CWI) officials.
“This decision was taken after the toss at Kensington Oval once the (positive COVID-19 test) result was known and confirmed by (Barbados) Ministry of Health officials,” CWI chief executive officer Johnny Grave said about yesterday’s postponement. (AR)
