Organisers of the National COVID-19 Vaccination Programme are seeking to open more vaccination centres on weekends.

One of the programme co-coordinators, Major David Clarke, said something had to be done in response to the large crowds which gather at them on weekends.

The crowd at the Masonic Lodge in Salters, St George, was captured in yesterday’s DAILY NATION.

“The issue is that people don’t want to come for their appointments during the week and would prefer [to] come on weekends, so we’ll just have to open more sites on weekends. We had a meeting to discuss that last night [Sunday] and we will be looking at how we can open more centres,” he said.

Clarke added it was still too early to say how many additional centres would be opened or which ones, and they still had to ascertain which teams would be available to work. (CA)
