Barbadian sprinter Mario Burke was diagnosed with a grade 1 hamstring injury following the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

However, the mild strain in the muscle should only sideline the 24 year-old for a few weeks.

The news was confirmed by national Olympic coach Gabriel Burnett today during a telephone interview.

“The injury is really minor. The medical team was taking care of him while we were in Tokyo and his rehab continued until he left. He is back in Houston and will continue to get the medical treatment that he needs,” he said.

Burke, in his maiden Olympics started well out the blocks, but pulled up and limped to the finish line in 15.86 seconds during the first round of the men’s 100-metres. It ruled the sprinter out of the 200-metres event. (AGB)
