Rising Star makes a splash

Jockey Rasheed Hughes and race horse Rising Star shone in the midst of inclement weather, which eventually forced an abandonment of the Barbados Turf Club’s Fraternity Raceday yesterday at the historic Garrison Savannah with three races not contested.

The Legends of Racing-owned five-year-old bay horse splashed to a commanding 12-and-a-quarter length victory in the 1 800-metre feature BTC Board Of Directors Handicap on the soft track.

In a race featuring a quintet of three-year-olds and older rated 140-122 and below, Trini Aviator and Terrain led through fractions of 25 seconds for the first quarter mile, 52.4 to the half-mile and 1:16.3 passing the six-furlong point of the journey.

The Eddie Belle-trained Rising Star raced in tandem with the grey Celestial Storm while Zagan was the back marker. (LY)
