Toss the pride ‘and eat cheaper’

Chief Magistate Ian Weekes is calling for Barbadians to buy local, saying it is pride that is stopping them from doing so and eating cheaper foodstuff, like sardines.

“I heard someone speak to desperation and that is why the level of crime is going where it’s going,” he said in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

“I keep saying let us support local; let us do what we know we can, like eat sardines. Let us forget the pride factor and eat the sardines.”

He said the country spent about $600 million every year importing “a lot of crap”.

“We want to buy Bounty hand towels. What do you do with hand towels? You throw them ’way. So why you can’t buy Economy? All the sun and wind, we got to use these things.
