Kingston – Pakistan were 212 for four in their first innings after lunch was taken in bizarre circumstances on the third day of the rain-affected second Test against West Indies at Sabina Park in Jamaica.
At the interval, Faheem Ashraf was not out on 23 and Mohammad Rizwan was not out on 22 after the Pakistanis continued from the same total overnight.
Play started an hour-and-a-half later than scheduled due to a wet outfield caused by rain, which forced the abandonment of the entire second day of play on Saturday, and in the early hours of Sunday.
Only eight deliveries were possible before play was suspended because of a damp patch behind the bowling crease at the Michael Holding End.
Windies pacer Jason Holder complained to umpires Joel Wilson and Gregory Brathwaite that he was unable to comfortably complete his delivery stride and there was a protracted on-field discussion.
The umpires summoned match referee Sir Richie Richardson, and eventually the discussion became wider with captains Kraigg Brathwaite and Babar Azam, and coaches Phil Simmons and Misbah-ul-Haq before the decision to suspend play.
West Indies lead the two-Test series 1-0 after a one-wicket victory inside four days in the first Test that ended this past Sunday at the same venue.
Summarised scores:
Pakistan 212 for four (Fawad Alam 76 retired, Babar Azam 75, Faheem Ashraf 23 not out, Mohammad Rizwan 22 not out; Kemar Roach 3-49) vs West Indies.
