Ravaged by community spread due to the prevalence of the Delta variant of COVID-19, Barbados is now battling more than 80 family clusters.

That revelation came from Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley during a press conference yesterday, as she went over what she considered some worrying numbers which showed how Barbadian communities were being impacted by the viral illness.

In addition to the 84 families, she said more than 200 people under the age of 18 had been infected with COVID-19 since September 1. She added that only on Sunday, 30 per cent of the new cases were also in that age group, and 25 per cent the day before.

Minister of Health Jeffrey Bostic, who also took part in the press conference, said their focus was on the clusters, which had led to the increase in cases. (BA)
