Former Attorney General Sir Maurice King was described as a model citizen whose life was one of service and sacrifice for his family and country.

That tribute came from officiating minister Dr Winston Layne at the funeral service for Sir Maurice at the Chapel of Coral Ridge Memorial Gardens, The Ridge, Christ Church, yesterday morning.

Speaking before a small congregation that included Governor General Dame Sandra Mason, former Prime Minister Sir Lloyd Erskine Sandiford and King’s family, Layne said Sir Maurice’s passing reminded one of the fragility of life and man’s powerlessness in the face of death.

“We have no control over if we live or die. Life is a sacred mystery. To the religious, it is a gift. We often repeat at funerals that the Lord gives and the Lord takes away. We love the part about the Lord giving but the taking away is not favourable.  However, the proper response to any gift is to show genuine gratitude. (KB)
