New examination software has University of the West Indies (UWI) students of the Cave Hill campus crying foul.
A letter from president of the Guild of Students, Kyle Holder-Leach, to deputy principal Professor Winston Moore outlined the issues students had with the software, called the Respondus LockDown Browser.
“[This] custom browser locks down the testing environment within a learning management system. In light of this, I write to bring to your attention the grave concerns the Guild of Students have with the integration of this Respondus software into the campus academic framework. We have communicated with our constituents and there are serious concerns we believe require the attention of campus administration for immediate resolution,” he said.
The issues include concerns regarding safety and privacy, technical and inequity. In terms of safety and privacy, Holder-Leach said the software was “very invasive” as it attempted to examine students’ lives and personal information. (CA)
