The Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) has partnered with community artist group Live Earth to create what it hopes will be the largest mural in the English-speaking Caribbean.

Being painted on almost 5 000 square feet of wall on the grounds of the YMCA in Pinfold Street, The City, it is expected to be completed by November 13.

YMCA general secretary Ché Greenidge said the mural was a part of an even larger initiative.

“We are on more than three acres of land, the largest green space in Bridgetown, and we’re looking to create a welcoming environment for the public, especially youth. We’re calling it the Safe Space initiative and it will include a community garden, composting facilities, a play park, revamping the thrift shop and even recycling where businesses and the community can bring their waste to us,” she said recently.

Greenidge said the total project is expected to take 18 months, adding it was part of the new direction for the YMCA. (CA)
