Barbadian Zane Maloney secured his seventh podium position of the Formula Regional European Championship season when he finished third in race one in the tenth and final round at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza in Italy.

Maloney initially qualified in fifth position but was later downgraded to seventh on the starting grid.

Nevertheless, the undeterred 18-year-old made a huge surge up the field in the first two turns and executed exemplary defensive driving to stave off the challenge of the chasing pack.

The finish earned him 15 important points to take his tally to 164, which keeps him in fourth place in the driver’s standings ahead of the final race of the season tomorrow at 7:10 a.m. Barbados time. (NM)
