Boxer Cobia “Soldier” Breedy’s long awaited championship bout ended in an anticlimactic technical no-decision after opponent Suleman Segawa suffered a gash above his left eye in the second round.
Battling in the night’s main event for the WBC Continental Americas Featherweight Championship in Washington D.C., the two seasoned competitors enjoyed a rapid start to the bout with Breedy scoring several right handed punches in the first two minutes of the contest.
An accidental head butt early in the second round left Segawa with a deep gash above his left eye which started to bleed profusely.
Even though the Ugandan’s team seemed to dress the wound effectively, the cut was deemed a potential hazard and referee Malik Waheed stopped the fight on the advice of the ringside physician.
Since less than four of the scheduled 10 rounds of the match did not materialise, the contest was declared a technical no-decision.
The two hope to renew their rivalry next February with a rematch. (NM)
