The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) today named a list of spokespersons it has entrusted to act on behalf of the people of Barbados, and hold the flame to Government’s feet.
During a specially called press conference held at the party’s George Street, Belleville, headquarters this morning, newly elected president of the party Dr David Estwick said it was their intention to provide a new voice for accountability, alternatives and national service.
The former minister said this iteration of the DLP was not around simply to oppose for opposing sake, but instead to provide alternative solutions to the myriad of issues Barbadians face every day.
“It is not enough to criticise the government when something goes wrong. It is not enough to point to the problems after they have become crises and it certainly is not enough to tell people what we disagree with without telling them what we would do differently,” Estwick told reporters.
He said the Democratic Labour Party ntends to offer Barbados something more.
“We intend to provide rigorous scrutiny of the government but we also intend to provide credible alternatives. We intend to ask the difficult questions, demand accountability, examine the expenditure of taxpayers money, challenge policies where necessary and most importantly place before the people of Barbados practical solutions to the problems that affect their lives,” the president said.
