At least three Government frontbenchers took issue with statements by Leader of the Opposition Bishop Joseph Atherley yesterday afternoon as Parliament debated a Resolution to take note of and approve the Charter of Barbados, 2021.
During the first 90-minutes of his contribution in the House of Assembly, which came immediately after the Chamber resumed from lunch, the MP for St Michael West drew the ire of Prime Minister Mia Mottley, MP for Christ Church West Dr William Duguid and MP for Christ Church East Wilfred Abrahams, who rose on points of order or elucidation.
Atherley, who is also the leader of the People’s Party for Democracy and Development (PdP), said he was not buying for a minute that the preamble of the Charter Of Barbados would not be contained in the new Constitution in the republic of Barbados.
He added that for those who believed otherwise, “perhaps free education in Barbados has been wasted on you. And I say that without apology”. (GBM)
