The Omicron variant is now in Barbados.

The country’s Chief Medical Officer, The Most Honourable Dr Kenneth George yesterday confirmed that a single case of the highly contagious variant of the COVID-19 virus had been identified in Barbados in the last week.

During a nationally televised press conference yesterday, George also revealed that several samples of concern had been sent from Barbados to the Trinidad-based Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) to determine the prevalence of Omicron in this country.

He then made a plea for Barbadians in a position to get their booster vaccination shots to do so, since evidence had shown the third dose of vaccination worked well to prevent serious illness or hospitalisation. (BA)
