Home isolation numbers increase with new cases

There were 479 new COVID-19 cases – 191 males and 288 females – recorded on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, from the 2 111 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.

The positive cases comprised 71 people under the age of 18, and 408 who were 18 years and older.

There were 164 people in isolation facilities, while 1 604 were in home isolation.

As at January 4, there were 263 deaths from the virus.

The public health laboratory has carried out 478 227 tests since February 2020, and recorded 30 177 COVID-19 cases (14 220 males and 15 957 females).

Under the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19, the total number of persons with at least one dose is 156 049 (68.3 per cent of the eligible population). The number of people who are fully vaccinated is 143 812 (53.1 per cent of the total population or 63 per cent of the eligible population).  The eligible population represents those who are 12 years and older.
