407 test positive for COVID on January 6

A total of 407 new COVID-19 cases – 193 males and 214 females – were identified on Thursday, January 6, from the 1 949 tests carried out by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.

The positive cases consisted of 58 persons under the age of 18, and 349 who were 18 years and older.

People in isolation facilities numbered 176, while 2 394 were in home isolation.

A 70-year-old unvaccinated man died at the Harrison’s Point Isolation Facility on Thursday.

As at January 6, there were 265 deaths from the virus.

The public health laboratory has carried out 482 154 tests since February 2020, and recorded 31 004 COVID-19 cases (14 585 males and 16 419 females).

Under the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19, the number of people with at least one dose is 156 150 (68.4 per cent of the eligible population). The number of persons who are fully vaccinated is 143 919 (53.1 per cent of the total population or 63 per cent of the eligible population). The eligible population represents those persons who are 12 years and older. (BGIS)
