Two students turned up for class at the Wesley Hall Junior School this morning, only to find the plant at King Street, St Michael, still closed.
Their parents were unaware of the second delay in the reopening of the school.
On Monday, the first day of the new academic term, school was cut short because of ongoing construction work which was not finished in time.
During a media conference held at St Mary’s Primary School, permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education Transformation Kim Belle said the school had not been paved.
“We wanted to do a more significant upgrade to the entire plant and that included paving of the exterior. For those of you who may be familiar with the school plant, when you come in, it was not very welcoming. In terms of when you drive into the school, you find a lot of rubble, etcetera, so we are in the preparatory stages of having it paved,” she said.
At the time, she said snagging was also to be completed and announced school would reopen for all students this morning.
The Nation obtained correspondence dated the same day indicating the school would be paved on Tuesday and open on Wednesday for pupils of Infants A and B and for everyone on Thursday.
However, around 7:15 p.m. yesterday, a second letter signed by the principal of the Infant School was sent to parents stating school would reopen on Thursday “to allow for final checks and inspections to be completed on the school premises, ensuring the facility is ready for a safe return”.
A crew from a construction company was on the plant working. A section of the inner courtyard was paved, but there is still work to be done. (SAT)
