Uncle scolded for hospital threat

Nurses and members of the medical fraternity have sacrificed too much during the COVID-19 pandemic and members of the public must not get the idea that they can be ill-treated.

So declared Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes as he sent grieving uncle Rodney Corey Patrick Griffith back to Dodds Prison for 28 days, while he pondered Griffith’s punishment for sending a viral video threatening Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) staff in the wake of his (Griffith’s) seven-year-old nephew’s death.

“You had an opportunity to grieve initially after the loss of your nephew. You then had an opportunity to go home and continue to grieve, process some more. But instead you decided to lash out at the same people who would have sacrificed for the same nephew,” he told Griffith.

“This kind of angry behaviour has now become commonplace among young people. But one would have felt because you had a little more maturity that you would have done better.

“But you actually went out and, after having time to consider, you lash out with the video. Do you believe members of the medical fraternity could feel safe any time they go to work now?” he asked. (HLE)
