Blocked road cleared after 30 years

Residents in a St Michael community are breathing a sigh of relief after a pathway was cleared yesterday after 30 years of being blocked, thanks to a public service vehicle (PSV) group.

A crew from C.O. Williams Construction assisted in clearing the road from behind Eden Lodge Nursery to Lodge Terrace that became overgrown with bush and a haven for indiscriminate dumping of garbage.

Alliance Owners of Public Transport (AOPT) director of complaints, Craig Banfield, said their PSV Give Back Programme began in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Rubis donated some gas vouchers to AOPT, which were given to members, along with hampers and other items they received.

“We earmarked this project in Eden Lodge about nine months ago to try and bring a problem we identified through our customers who travel with us. This is an area that is dense with a lot of bush and debris, but it is traversed heavily by residents in Eden Lodge to get to various locations,” said Banfield, who is coordinator of the programme.
