The inaugural Roger Boyce Pro Elite Classic and the hosting of the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Championships in July will be a shot in the arm for Barbados and bodybuilding.

So said new Minister of Sports Charles Griffith, who added that he was delighted both events would be held in Barbados from July 27 to August 1 at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

Griffith, speaking at a press conference yesterday afternoon accompanied by CAC president Giovanni Arendzs, Barbados Amateur Bodybuilding & Fitness Federation (BABBFF) president Dr Alfred Sparman and second vice-president Roger Boyce, said the two major events would give “a lift to the sport”.

“This will be a great time for bodybuilding and will certainly trigger development in sports tourism.

“Sports tourism is a multimillion- dollar industry and it is important we tap into it. This should be a big year for bodybuilding and there should be huge spin-offs. For too long, sports tourism has been overlooked on the island and I hope we make full use of hosting the CAC and the Roger Boyce Pro Elite Classic in one weekend,” Griffith said. (MK)
