The Ivy, St Michael community was left in a state of shock after the fatal shooting of a resident on Saturday.

Police said Shaquon Stanford, 25, of 2nd Avenue Skeete’s Road, The Ivy, was sitting on the step outside his residence using his cell phone, when he was shot by a lone gunman.

Stanford received injuries to the buttocks and upper torso.

Stanford’s family was too distraught to speak, however, Che Yearwood said he was always “cool and humble” and a great friend.

“He was a good fella and we had a great friendship, I’m real hurt he’s gone,” she said.

Crystal Cottle said the violent act was surprising.

“It’s real hard [to take] because we haven’t had any murders here in a long time,” she said.

Stanford was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by private vehicle and later died while receiving medical treatment. Police said the assailant ran away.

Investigations are ongoing. (CA)
