Kishawna Niles captured the Under-20 girls sprint double to open the 2022 local track and field season in blazing style on Saturday at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex.

Niles, the 17-year-old Deighton Griffith star sprinter who switched from Elite Distance Programme to Velocity Management, signalled her intent to book a spot on Barbados’ CARIFTA team heading to Jamaica in April, coming within touching distance of last year’s 100 metre standard (11.80).

She stormed to victory in section two of the timed finals in 11.84 seconds to deny Rising Stars’ duo of Azara Husbands (12.70) and Dania Haynes (12.71).

Niles then went even closer to the 2021, 200-metre requirement (24.00) clocking 24.88 seconds over the longer distance.
