A flash-flood warning is in effect for western and northwestern districts of Barbados until 6 p.m. today, as moderate to heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms affect the island.
The Barbados Meteorological Services issued the warning at 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, amid excessive rainfall across western sections of the island.
The forecast indicates rainfall accumulations of one to three inches in affected districts as the showers persist throughout the afternoon.
Possible impacts include flooding along roads and at the foot of hillsides, soil erosion and land slippage, rising water levels in ponds, and fast-moving water carrying debris from higher elevations. Traffic delays are also possible.
The public is advised to follow recommendations from the Department of Emergency Management and monitor updates from the Barbados Meteorological Services, DEM, the Government Information Service and local media.
The warning is scheduled to end at 6 p.m. or earlier if conditions warrant. (BMS)
