A medical doctor had to fork out a forthwith fine of $500 yesterday after he pleaded guilty to not wearing a face mask in breach of the COVID-19 directives.
Dr Roderic Hinds, of Platinum Medical Clinic, Grazettes Main Road, St Michael, appeared before Magistrate Elwood Watts in the St Matthias Magistrates’ Court, where he at first pleaded not guilty to the charge that on August 31, 2021, he contravened the Emergency Management COVID-19 Curfew Directive by failing to wear a face mask, face shield or face covering which covers his mouth, nose and chin in a public place without reasonable explanation.
Just before the matter was about to be heard, Hinds changed his plea to “guilty”.
Prosecutor Sergeant St Clair Phillips told the court that officers from the COVID Monitoring Unit went to the doctor’s office to carry out an inspection and he came to the door without a mask on. He was ordered to put it on but he did not comply. (MB)
This fine is fair, in my opinion. It sends a clear message, \\\”no one is above the law\\\”.

How can the good Doctor be charged for not wearing a face mask when mask wearing has not been made mandatory in Barbados ??The tourist are allowed to move alk around tgis ciuntry without masks but with positive covid results and false covid test results. His lawyer needs to show up the double standards of tge Barbados Government and Covid Monitoring Unit. He is entitled to make and live with his decision of wgeter or not to wear a mask. People who are vaccinated are stilk contrating covid even when wearing masks and wgen avoiding contact witg people. Persons at restaurants and the said Government supposedly owned Chinese made Grantley Adams nternational Airport do not wear masks on the request of the rich and fanous tourists. Discrimination at its best.

The lesson to be learned is that the rules apply to all, regardless of race, class, status, etc. The doctor of all people should know better. My only regret is that the fine should be bigger than $500.00
