Trinidad and Tobago is bidding farewell to calypso legend Slinger Francisco, better known as Mighty Sparrow, whose funeral is taking place today at the National Academy for the Performing Arts in Port of Spain (NAPA).
Sparrow died at the age of 91 following a brief illness in Queens, New York, on Sunday, September 27.
A procession in his honour travelled from Independence Square along Frederick Street, ending near the Queen’s Park Savannah.
Minister of Culture Michelle Benjamin joined the procession alongside schoolchildren as the country paid tribute to one of calypso’s most celebrated figures.
