Chief Education Officer gives update

Face-to-face classes will resume in Barbados on February 21, however Coleridge and Parry will not reopen next week. Another week is needed in preparation for reopening.

Wilkie Cumberbatch is not ready.

Four satellite centres will be organised to facilitate teaching there.

The locations are Barbados Boys Scouts, Open Campus, a site in Belleville and St Matthias Church.

Some teachers are returning on February 28.

Strategies are being organised to facilitate this.

Satellite centres are not feasible for Coleridge & Parry as a secondary school because teachers operating on a floating basis.

Reminder that the Ministry is not “getting rid” of God out of schools.

Some principals have become very creative and have decided that they will stream general assembly to the classrooms via the Internet.

In the absence of wifi, teachers will guide class prayers.

Sessions are intended to be interactive.

People interested in becoming class monitors can contact the Ministry of Education by telephone 535-0600.

Barbados National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations is assisting.

The Ministry of Education has a list of volunteers.

Some callers on BrassTacks volunteered to donate school supplies

  1. We will encounter snags along the way but our children really need to get back in the classrooms.Some of them have been home for so long that they have lost the basic skills of communicating effectively with peers and will to return to school.
