Barbadian surfer Joshua Burke advanced to the round of 16 in the Ron Jon Quiksilver Pro at Cocoa Beach, Florida, yesterday to continue his excellent recent form ahead of the Barbados Surf Pro at the end of this month.

Burke, the event’s winner in 2018, commenced the competition in the round of 64 and came second in the fifth heat with a total score of 12.85.

The USA’s Raiki Nishida was the best in that heat with his total score of 13.00, which took him comfortably to the next round. American Max Beach and Venezuela’s Derek Gomes scored 9.8 and 9.6 to place third and fourth, respectively.

In the consequent round of 32 battle, Burke was efficient in his use of the waves and managed a healthy total of 12.25 to advance in first place. (NM)
