Ukrainians living here are pleading with Barbadians and the rest of the world to support their homeland’s fight against the Russian invaders.

They have also charged that the racial issues in their home country have been blown out of proportion.

During a bake sale at Art Splash Centre in Hastings, Christ Church, some of the Ukrainians reacted to images of officials allegedly refusing to allow racial minority groups into the country previously. The sale was organised by Maria van der Maas to raise funds for the World Central Kitchen, which has been providing meals for refugees. Svitlana Kroychyk said people should not turn a blind eye to the injustices being carried out by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“There were incidents that happened at the border and in no way would I want to defend [that]. I am extremely ashamed that it happened in my country. I wish we could turn time back and everyone fleeing the country could be treated equally and with more respect. (TG)
